Mad Max: Fury Road is leading the upcoming 21st annual Critics’ Choice Awards with 13 nominations, as it was announced Monday morning.
George Miller’s latest action film is a never ending car chase through a post-apocalyptic Australia, where Imperator Furiosa (Charlize Theron’s character) rebels against the tyrannical government of Immortan Joe, the film’s main villain.
The movie has been receiving positive reviews ever since it premiered back on May 15th, with a rating of 8.2 out of 10 in IMDB and 97 percent of approval in Rotten Tomatoes, both well-known websites for movie reviews.
Fury Road‘s lead star Charlize Theron received two nominations, one for Best Actress and one for Best Actress in an Action Movie. The film was also nominated for Best Picture, category in which it’ll be competing against movies like Carol, The Martian, and The Revenant with nine nominations each.
The 21st annual Critics’ Choice Awards will take place on January 17th and it’ll be hosted by the actor and comedian T.J. Miller. The ceremony will be aired on various channels, including Lifetime, LMN and A&E.
The event will last three hours during which judges will award not only movies, but also — and for the first time — TV series like leading competitor Fargo with eight nominations, along with Transparent and The Leftovers with six.
