To say the very least, Tiger Woods golf game hasn’t been up to par lately. Whether it’s the myriad of injuries he has dealt with in recent years, or something just being off with his stroke, but regardless of the cause, Woods has decided to step away from the game until he feels his skill warrants a return to the PGA.
In recent tournaments, Woods has missed a cut by a career worst 12 strokes, and withdrawn from a tournament at Torrey Pines, where he was playing poorly, after just 11 holes with tightness in his back.
“Right now, I need a lot of work on my game, and to still spend time with the people that are important to me,” he said. “My play, and scores, are not acceptable for tournament golf. Like I’ve said, I enter a tournament to compete at the highest level, and when I think I’m ready, I’ll be back.”
Tiger has stated that he would like to play in the Honda Classic on February the 26th, but says that he won’t come back to play until he feels like his game is where it needs to be in order for him to truly compete and win tournaments at the highest level.
Woods truly hasn’t been the same since winning the U.S Open in 2008 when he was, for all intents and purposes, playing on just one knee, as his left knee would require reconstructive surgery.
Between the injury struggles that Woods has dealt with since that surgery, on top of the incidents that took place with his off of the golf course, Woods has been unable to return to the form that made him one of the best golfers in the world, and arguably the greatest golfer of our generation.
Woods is eyeing a return to the course sooner than later, but whenever we see him next, we can look for him to be more reminiscent of the Woods of old.
