Huggies has announced its new line of tiny diapers designed for premature babies weighing less than 2 pounds.

This revolutionary diaper was created thanks to the expertise of nurses in Neonatal Intensive Care Units and neonatal therapists to offer the protection needed for the delicate skin of premature babies. The Little Snugglers Nano Preemie Diapers allow babies under 900 grams to grow while protecting their underdeveloped skin. At the moment they are available in the United States, but they can also be acquired on Amazon.

“The diaper features gentle, specially-sized fasteners and a narrow, absorbent pad to provide a flexible fit so that baby can be comfortably positioned in a fetal tuck, with arms and legs close to the body,” the company stated. “The soft, smooth liner and gentle leg gather offer leakage protection without irritating fragile, underdeveloped skin.”

These little diapers meet the needs of premature babies

Diapers for babies are numerous, but there were not nappies especially designed for the 1.4 percent of babies that are born before they should. Therefore, Huggies decided to offer options to this fragile population.

It took six months for Huggies to go from the concept to the launch of the little Snugglers Nano Preemie Diapers. They did everything as fast as they could, going from brand’s research and skin science to manufacturing. Eleonora Daireaux, Huggies’ North America vice president, said that they are committed to giving immediate solutions to the NICU concerns, and these new diapers reflect that.

“We’re passionate about helping all babies thrive, especially the smallest and most fragile,” said Daireux.

The U.S. is the sixth country with the greatest number of preterm births

Preterm births are understood as those births where the baby is born before 37 full weeks of pregnancy. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, about 10 percent of babies were premature in the United States during 2015. The rate of preterm births decreased from 2007 to 2014, and then it had a slight increase between 2014 and 2015.

Huggies’ new diapers go through a rigorous process of inspection that includes a 40-point hand inspection before being individually folded and then hand-packed for distribution. They have a narrow absorbent pad, and they have specially sized fasteners to offer flexibility and comfort when preemies are in a fetal tuck position. The Little Snugglers Nano Preemie Diapers are part of Huggies’ “No Baby Unhugged” program that intends to make sure every baby receives the hugs necessary to thrive. For every sign up under the No baby Unhugged program, Huggies donates $5 to volunteer hugging efforts.
