The American Automobile Association, also known as AAA, is offering to all the people attending the Super Bowl LI in Houston a ride home.
According to reports, the Super Bowl is the third national event in which Americans could consume more alcohol than usual. Last year, one person was killed, and other 52 were injured in California streets after leaving the Levi Stadium. Most of them were fans of the Denver Broncos, the team that won the game.
For this reason, AAA is offering a safe ride home for all those persons that might feel dubious about grabbing the wheel and head home. From 3 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 5, until 4 a.m. Monday, Feb. 6, anyone can call AAA and ask for a “Tipsy Tow,” and automatically a truck will be on its way.
The company has stated that the person who calls them does not necessarily have to be an AAA member. The service will be available in Tahlequah, Muskogee, metropolitan Tulsa, metro Oklahoma City, Lawton, Ardmore, Shawnee, Enid, and Bartlesville. The ride is valid for 10-mile distances and is totally free.
According to Chuck Mai, spokesman for AAA Oklahoma, the company is aware of the fact that many people will be drinking during the Super Bowl on Sunday, and they do no have any kind of trouble with that. However, he emphasizes, nobody should put others in danger when driving in a moment and under a condition where it’s not safe for anybody on the road.
Triple-A’s recommendations for safer celebrations
The company has a body of recommendations that are oriented to the safety of all drivers when leaving an event where drinking is common, like the Super Bowl.
Among these recommendations, there is the designation of a driver before the celebration, never to ride a car with an intoxicated person and report to law enforcement officers if that person is about to drive, and of course, to always drive sober and safe.
Susan Hiltz, AAA Michigan’s public affairs director, says that if everybody attending to the Super Bowl reduces the amount of alcohol or the consumption of any drug-related substance, no matter if the Patriots of the Falcons wins the game, the whole community will be the winner.
She also encouraged motorists to reduce the alcohol and drug consumption to a minimum of zero, as he is sure that if everybody works together on this issue, this celebration could be perfectly safe for everyone.
“Everybody wants to have fun at a Super Bowl party,” Cynthia Harris, spokesperson for AAA Northern California said. “But be aware that as little as one drink can impair vision, steering, braking, judgment, and reaction time. If you’ve been drinking, don’t get behind the wheel. Give AAA a call and we’ll make sure you get home safely.”
Among the recommendations that Triple-A is giving to the people, they also are encouraging all the Super Bowl fans that are not sure about driving to call any ride-sharing service like Uber or Lyft, to assure a safe ride home in any case.
