Canadian singer and songwriter Alanis Morissette shared on Friday afternoon that her baby girl was born. The singer’s second child was born on Thursday, June 23, but she decided to share the news on her social media about two weeks later.
The 42-year-old singer announced in February through a video posted on her website that she was pregnant for the second time with her beloved husband singer and rapper Mario “Souleye” Treadway, 36. The couple got married in 2010. Ever Imre, their first kid, was born on December 25, 2010.
On June 28, days after giving birth, the singer shared on Instagram a completely naked photo of herself underwater. In the caption, she quoted her son Ever: “You have to be extra gentle around ladies because they are the most helpful people in the world ‘cause they make persons.”
“Both marriage and becoming a parent have their way of growing us up. It is just about whether we kick and scream through the process (or, ultimately, run from it), or submit to it willingly and with a relatively open mind,” the singer wrote in a recent column for The Guardian.
She added that without full commitment, the relationship will not be equilibrated and functional.
Morissette is a known breastfeeding advocate
In 2012, a controversy around the TIME cover of Jamie Grumet arose. She appeared nursing her 3-year-old sold, provoking all sort of reactions on social media.
Days later, Morissette was invited to Good Morning America, and stated that she would breastfeed her son as long as he wants, “even if that is age 5 or 6.” She said that breastfeeding at “that stage of development is a very important stage.”
Last year, the singer appeared in the breastfeeding documentary The Milky Way along other celebrity breastfeeding advocates, where they encourage women to breastfeed their babies and feel comfortable with that.
“We live in a very funny society, a society that on one hand says that we’re just a sexual object (…) and then when this other sort of otherworldly, biological wind-in-the-hair goddess power comes out in the form of feeding our children in a very beautiful, animal way, that can actually be more intimidating,” the singer states in the documentary.
