Amazon has announced the adding of a plane fleet to upgrade it’s delivery system, showcasing, on Thursday, the brand’s first cargo plane called “Amazon One” which will appear at this year’s Seafair Air Show in Seattle.
The giant e-commerce retailer is seeking to upgrade its delivery services and to keep up with the growing sales it has been experiencing. And what better way to do that, than to add plane fleet to their delivery services? Seattle, the company’s hometown, will be the first to get a glimpse of Amazon’s new Boeing 767-300 which Amazon’s air cargo provider, Atlas Air, will operate.
The upgrade came as a response to the growth of Amazon’s Prime service, which offers speed delivery on packages for subscribed clients. With Amazon Prime users can get benefits such as video streaming, e-books and free shipping on the same day of ordering.
The Amazon One is just the first out of 40 planes announced by the brand; the company already has 11 planes dedicated to delivering their orders, but the Amazon One is the first one to be branded as Amazon’s Prime Air.
“Creating an air transportation is expanding our capacity to ensure excellent delivery speeds for our Prime members for years to come,” said David Clark senior VP of Amazon.
Clarke announced the company’s excitement of having the inaugural flight of the Amazon One on Seattle’s Seafair Air Show, as a way of celebrating the milestone in the company’s hometown.
Speed delivery
The company has been announcing several changes to their speed delivery system, as it continues to upgrade the way customers get their packages. Amazon started introducing drones not so long ago, in an effort to satisfy premium deliveries within a short period of time.
In the past year, the company announced Amazon Flex which is an app for selected states that allows citizens with their vehicles to act as Amazon delivery services to upgrade trucking capacity. Amazon Flex works in places such as Milwaukee, Baltimore and Miami having already 4,000 trailers delivering packages.
The name ‘Prime Air’ has been used by the company to address a recent initiative of delivering packages by using drones. Amazon has been announcing the future service as the delivery of the future.
The marketing of the drone service seeks to deliver packages in 30 minutes or less after ordering, yet the company is still working on the basics of the service.
With the addition of the plane fleet, the company is seeking to facilitate the process of moving packages from one Amazon warehouse to the other. As a way to complement the services that UPS and FedEx provide for Amazon. Many have seen the initiative as a way to get rid of third-party services. However, Amazon has assured it will continue to be a UPS and FedEx customer but shortening the process of shipping.
Even though the company hasn’t announced when Prime Air will begin to work, it is undoubtedly the commitment of the business with fast and secure shipping
