BMW presented its awe-inspiring M4 GTS at the Amelia Island Concours d’Elegance this past weekend. The german automaker has described the vehicle as the most “agile, radical and dynamically potent model in the range”.
The vehicle is part of a showcase of famous vintage cars, such as the BMW M3, which has been in production since 1986. Last year, the automaker announced it was going to sell 700 units of a special edition M4 GTS to commemorate the first launch of the M3.
BMW wants to create “an emotionally rich and exclusive” driving experience for M4 GTS’ owners, by developing a sport model for the race track, which is at the same time a road-legal car, equipped with top-end dynamics. Drivers can take this exclusive model to circuits such as the Spa-Francorchamps or the Laguna Seca.
M4 GTS uses a multi-award-winning six-cylinder turbo engine, boosted with a water injection system that raises the engine’s output to 368 kW/500 hp, while maintaining the same levels of CO2 emissions as the BMW M4 coupe, and the same fuel consumption (2.2 gallons per 62 miles), said the german automaker in a press release.
“This makes the BMW M4 GTS the most agile, radical and dynamically potent model in the range. It races from a standstill to 100 km/h (62 mph) in a mere 3.8 seconds and hits a limited top speed of 305 km/h (189.5 mph),” said BMW in a press release.
Sleek performance + astounding design: BMW M4 GTS
Engineers wanted to develop a lightweight model. As a result, the car is equipped with carbon-fibre seats, and a newly designed bonnet, roof and adjustable front splitter that are constructed from carbon-fibre-reinforced-plastic. The total weight of the vehicle is 3,329 pounds, which is 200 pounds lighter than the non-special version of the M4.
Headlights combine LED technology alongside BMW Selective Beams. On the other hand, the L-shaped rear lights use OLED technology, to offer a more “eye-catching and powerful appearance”, said BMW executives.
The vehicle’s wheels are painted in Acid Orange, for an unique look. Moreover, drivers are able to adjust the suspension system according to race circuits, to harness the potential of its aluminium wheels that measure 19 inches in the front and 20 inches in the back.
The M4 GTS will come in Alpine White, Black Sapphire, Mineral Grey and Frozen Grey. The german automaker will only deliver 700 units of the vehicle that costs $134,200 in the United States. All units have already been sold.
The Amelia Island Concours D’Elegance is currently showcasing more than 300 exceptional and expensive vehicles, such as concept cars and racing prototypes like the exotic Lamborghini Miura. Attendees can interact with vehicles and talk with designers about ideas for the future.
BMW celebrates 100 years and presents new concept car
The automaker presented a new concept car with swan-wing doors and a golden chassis with red lines, at the BMW Festival called “The Next 100 Years”, that took place in Munich. The company said that its objective is to learn fast and take bold steps to create vehicles that focus on drivers.
BMW remarked that in the close future most cars will be autonomous and technologies will learn to learn from people, in order to connect every area of their lives.
“If, as a designer, you are able to imagine something, there’s a good chance it could one day become reality,” said Adrian van Hooydonk, Head of BMW Group Design. “So our objective with the BMW VISION NEXT 100 was to develop a future scenario that people would engage with.”
