Angelina Jolie-Pitt has filed for divorce Monday after two years of marriage with her co-star in “Mr. and Mrs. Smith.” Jolie issued the request for divorce citing irreconcilable differences between her and Brad Pitt. The document does not specify what those differences are.
Jolie-Pitt is requesting sole physical custody and joint legal custody of their six children: Maddox, Pax, Zahara, Shiloh, Vivienne, and Knox. Jolie is willing to give Brad Pitt visitation rights.
Among the goods that Jolie seeks to keep after the divorce, there are different jewelry and her earnings and accumulations from and after the date of separation. Additionally, she indicated she wants separate property assets and obligations with Pitt. Jolie wants “the exact nature of and extent of which are not presently known,” Los Angeles Times reported. The date of separation is listed as Sept. 15.
The couple has been married since 2014 and started dating in 2005 after they met shooting “Mr. and Mrs. Smith.” Brad Pitt was still married to Jennifer Aniston when he began his romance with Jolie. Brad Pitt has been married twice: with Aniston and with Jolie, and Angelina has been divorced twice, from Billy Bob Thornton and Jonny Lee Miller.
Jolie Pitt’s lawyer, Robert Offer, stated the decision of filing the divorce was made for the health of the family. “She will not be commenting, and asks that the family be given its privacy at this time.”
Brad Pitt told People his focus is the well-being of their kids. Pitt said the situation saddened him and kindly asked the press to give his family the space they deserve “during this challenging time.”
A source close to the situation told People both Pitt and Jolie-Pitt care very much about their kids, and both sides are sad for the separation.
The divorce is a complete shock, says another source close to the couple to People. The source said Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt had spent more time apart this year, but the divorce is still a shock. “They just celebrated their wedding anniversary together.”
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt were engaged since 2012 and got married on August 14, 2014. They then celebrated their marriage on August 23 with a ceremony in their chateau in Provence, France.
