Rock legend Bruce Springsteen invited a young Australian while giving a concert in Brisbane to perform “Growin’ Up” with him.
15-year-old Nathan Testa captured Springsteen’s attention with a sign where he revealed that he skipped school to attend the concert. Springsteen asked him if he knew the song on guitar, and shortly he hopped on stage to play with the man.
“Missed school. In the s— now. Now can I play ‘Growin’ Up’ with you?” read the sign.
But it is not the first time Testa got on stage with Springsteen. Four years ago, Testa attended a concert on that same stage, and he was brought up to sing “Waitin’ on a Sunny Day.”
Springsteen’s great career
Bruce Springsteen is one of the artists whose career just seems to keep going strong. Just a couple of months ago, he released his latest memoirs in the book Born to Run, and even after all these years of public life, The Boss has still many deep secrets that he reveals through his songs and writings.
On Born to Run, Springsteen discusses how he dealt with his father’s mental illness, which would go worse as years went by. At first, he reveals to have treated him as a neglecting parent, but that in reality, their story was much more complicated and that he was not “completely fair” to him.
He also revealed that perhaps to his father’s drinking problems, he stayed away from alcohol until he was 22 years old. It was after during the production of Greetings From Asbury Park back in 1972 that he was talked into drinking at a bar in New Jersey. He enjoyed the experience and recognized being “high” for the first time.
“Another round and shortly I was having what felt like the finest evening of my young life. What had I been sweating and worrying about!? All was good, wonderful even,” Springsteen wrote, according to Rolling Stone.
Springsteen also underwent surgery which left him without a voice for a couple of months. It happened during his Working on a Dream 2009 tour. He saw his fretting hand getting weak and uncontrollable. It was due to nerve pressure at the vertebrae of his neck, which would then numb the nerves on the left side of his body. He was operated upon, and his vocal cords had to be tied off to a side to “take a chunk of bone out of your hip and go about building you a few new discs.”
Lastly, Springsteen reveals how he, just like many great artists has had to deal with depression, getting to the point of using medication for years. He reveals to being unable to get out of bed or get sexually aroused, being one of the toughest periods in his late life. Luckily, Springsteen has seen lots of activity over the past few months, showing that there is still much more of him to go a long way down into the history of Rock and Roll.
