Daniel Dion death from cancer was confirmed by Celine Dion’s publicist, Francine Chaloult, this Saturday. He was 59 years old and was close to her sister. The singer had lost her husband René Angélil, due to cancer as well, just two days before her brother’s death.
Dion’s funeral will be held at St-Simon-et-Jude de Charlemagne church on Repentigny, Quebec, as reported by CBC news.
Daniel was battling against throat, tongue and brain cancer. Doctors told the family that he had very few time.
“No one knows how long he has. She had heard that he might pass on Tuesday but he seems to be holding on,” sources said on Friday.
He was the oldest of 14 brothers, including the awarded singer. Celine is still in Las Vegas with her kids making plans for her husband’s funeral. She is grieving him with her family, sources said. She has canceled her Las Vegas show after Angélil’s death.
The tragic news came after only two days of Celine Dion’s husband, René Angélil, death from throat cancer, same as her brother. Her husband was 73 years old and used to be her manager. Dion planned to bury her husband in the same cathedral where they married in 1994, apparently those were his wishes.
The funeral was supposed to be held at Notre-Dame Basilica in Montreal, but is unknown if there will be any change on the plans after the tragic death of his brother.
According to the American Cancer Society (ACS), in 2015, there was an estimate of 589,330 deaths from cancer in the U.S. putting together men and women’s amount. Men had 312,150 deaths estimated, lead by lung and bronchus cancer, and women had 277,280 with the leading of the same type of disease.
The ACS also showed worrying probabilities, for men the risk of cancer is 1 in 2, in all sites. The most likely to occur is prostate (1 in 7) although is not the one that had the most deaths in 2015, as previously explained.
For women, is less likely to develop the disease, 1 in 3 in all sites, but the one that showed more probabilities in women, unsurprisingly, was breast cancer with 1 in 8.
