Kool Smiles offered free dental care and educational services to children in Baltimore that can’t afford bills related to dental treatments. The event was called “Sharing Smiles Day” and it was held in the Westside Shopping Center, where dentists and specialists from Kool Smiles’ offices offered the services for free.
The company was founded in 2002 and its main goal is to provide access to dental service to communities that are often overlooked, offering treatments to entire families, from young children to adults. They work with specialized clinics, that are mostly children-friendly so oral healthcare became a familiar and fun activity.
Sharing Smiles Day
The one-day event focused on dental education targeting children and their parents, but they also provided treatment to gum damage, cavities, loose teeth and mouth affections. The belief in Kool Smiles is that preventative dental care can change lives since most mouth maladies are derived from ignorance and not uncaring individuals.
This is not the first time Kool Smiles held this event. For the last two years, the company offered the free of charge services to children and they aim to make it again, at least once a year.
“Dental care is very important because it is an indication of your whole bodily health, so we want to provide the care for the children to meet their needs. There are a lot of patients that need a lot of work done. It’s nice to do something for people who can’t afford it,” Members of the Kool Smiles’ team said to local media to justify this event.
The permanent work
Kool Smiles also have a plan on long term social service. They value volunteer work, so the main goal is to send their dentist into field trips to South America in order to provide dental care, considering the deep lack of dental services available to some communities in the region. The first country that is going to be visited with the sponsored doctors will be Ecuador.
