Last week, Rihanna sold 54,000 new copies of her latest album ANTI, according to Nielsen Music. Results took her back to No.1 on the prestigious Billboard 200 albums chart. ANTI is the second number 1 album of the singer and the first that has spent more than one week at number 1 on the same Billboard chart.
According to RiRi, ANTI means a person opposed to a particular policy, activity or idea. In a private exhibition last year, the singer said that she wants to do the “antithesis” of what the media, fans and public expect.
Billboard charts count traditional album sales, track equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA). Last week, the album sold 17,000 digital and physical copies, the other number of sales is adjudicated to TEA and SEA albums, as explained by Billboard.
The most successful single from the album is Work which has been the No. 1 single of the Billboard Hot 100 chart, during four weeks. The video, which features RiRi dancing alongside rapper Drake, has more than 153 million views on Youtube, in just one month.
The new chart, where Rihanna’s ANTI is number one, will be published in Billboard on Tuesday 22. However, the magazine has already said that Adele’s 25 will be now the No. 2 album, after it sold 51,000 units during last week. Justin Bieber goes third, with 48,000 album sales with it latest album Purpose.
RiRi will be awarded at BET’s ‘Black Girl Rocks!’
On April 1, BET Networks will give Rihanna the Rock Star Award at the 2016 Black Girl Rocks! event, which will take place at the Jersey Performing Arts Center in Newark New Jersey. However, the special will be broadcasted on April 5 at 8 p.m. ET.
Event organizers describe RiRi as a “magical and monumental” part of U.S. music culture, saying that she has the numbers to prove it. In fact, the 28-year-old singer is the best-selling digital artist of music history.
“From being the first Black woman to front a Dior campaign to scoring the title of top-selling digital artist of all time after selling 54 million albums and 210 million digital tracks worldwide, Rihanna is really the one to beat!,” says Black Girls Rock in its webpage.
Currently, Rihanna is performing ANTI on a world tour that started on March 12 in Jacksonville, with a sold out concert. This journey will end on August 21 in Chelmsford England. The singer said last week that she had never felt better at stage than when performing this new album.
