Michigan – A 3-month-old baby girl missing in Detroit has been found on a porch on Monday morning. The baby was reported missing after the car she was sleeping in was stolen on the east side of the city.
The baby named Dakota Grimes was taken with the stolen 2006 Chevy Impala after the father stopped at a local liquor store on Monday at approximately 1am and left the motor running. When the man returned from the store, the car and the baby were not near the location, as reported by Click on Detroit.
An amber alert had been issued after the man reported the incident, local police said. Dakota was found later around 8am the same day on a porch just a mile away from where the car was stolen. The girl was immediately transported to the hospital but appeared to be healthy and in normal conditions.
Dakota was “sleeping like a princess” when two local men found her on the porch of a residence after the amber alert was issued. The girl’s grandmother could not believe that the girl was missing when the family first broke the news to her.
“I got nine of them children of my own, and I know what it is like being a mother. I do not know what my daughter is going through right now,” said the women who asked to be referred as Mary. “As a mother, I know how a mother feels about the safety of her children, I am just happy that she is alive. Oh, my God. I am so excited,” Mary added.
According to Mary, she is trying to keep a level head about Dakota’s father until she can find exactly what happened. She hopes this is something they can both learn from and never do this again.
Stolen car
The stolen car remains missing as the police continue on alert and looking for the vehicle. The father offered a detailed description of the car, a 2006 Chevy Impala with the Michigan license plate CPG-8598.
In addition to the technical details, the car side rear bumper has damage, the trunk does not close completely and the driver’s rear light in broken out and gas red tape across it. Police encouraged people who could have any information to contact local authorities.
