Driver killed by a fallen tree

California – A terrible storm that has been moving across California brought powerful winds and heavy rain and snow. A driver was killed by a tree that fell because of the storm.

This is something no one would have imagined it could happen in real life. It seems more of a scene of a movie rather than something that actually happened to a person.

The driver was passing by a residential street in Pacific Beach when, in a strange precision of coordinated events, an 8-foot diameter oak tree fell across all four traffic lane, crushing his car. It also crushed three parked cars that, luckily, were unoccupied. Firefighters worked for more than 2 hours to take the victim’s body out of the car, whose identity is being withheld.

The wind has strongly affected the area. It has downed dozens of trees and power poles, ripped off rooftops and in one case, a solar panel.

As an article of the New York Times explains, utility companies reported that more than 100,000 customers lost power on Sunday in San Diego and Los Angeles Counties because of the storm.

San Diego generally received a total of less than an inch of rain but areas at higher elevations saw significantly more. Reports on snow totals were still coming, but meteorologists expected them to be abundant.

The Farmers Insurance Open golf competition at San Diego’s Torrey Pines on Sunday had to call off play and reschedule the competition for Monday morning.

The rain forecast was to clear up early on Monday morning, and the powerful winds are expected to diminish by the evening.

“To the people out there dealing with the rain: be careful, drive slowly and arrive alive,” the San Diego Fire and Rescue Capt. Joe Amador said.
