After serving almost ten years in a California prison, drug lord Hector “El Guero” Palma has been returned to his native country and transported to another maximum security prison. The prison is called the Altiplano, the same prison that Sinaloa Cartel leader Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman escaped from last year.
“El Guero” is known for being one of the principal founders of the Sinaloa drug cartel and co-leader, along with Joaquin “El Chapo” Guzman.
A Mexican Attorney General said that U.S. authorities handed over Palma in Matamoros across the border from Brownsville, Texas. Palma, who had been released from federal prison in California on Friday and put into the custody of U.S. immigration officials, arrived in Mexico City on Wednesday night. Shortly after, Palma was transported to Altiplano, where he waits for trial apparently for being accused of two murders in Nayarit in 1995.
Attorney General Arely Gomez said that officials were reviewing if there were any pending cases against Palma.
“We are in the process of carrying out an exhaustive examination, checking all the prosecutors’ offices,” said Gomez in a statement.
In case Mexican officers do not find charges against Palma, the Sinaloa drug dealer will be released from prison.
In June 1995, Palma was arrested in western Mexico after being in a plane crash near Guadalajara. Later on, he was extradited to the United States in 2007. He pled guilty to cocaine trafficking and was sentenced to 16 years in prison. Palma received an early release for good behavior.
Nevertheless, Palma was arrested once in Mexico because of being accused of two murders he committed in Nayarit in 1995. Apparently one of Palma’s victim was a corrupt state police officer, said Mexican authorities.
Palma’s tragic and miserable personal life
Before being caught and sent to prison, Palma’s criminal activities led him terrible consequences in his family. In a long-running war with Miguel Angel Felix Gallardo, the Guadalajara Cartel, and the breakaway Sinaloa Cartel, Palma faced terrible family member deaths. Felix sent Rafael Clavel Moreno a Venezuelan criminal to win Palma’s wife heart.
Once Clavel was convinced that Palma’s wife was in love with him, Clavel and Palma’s wife ran away and with her children to San Francisco. Once they were safely in the U.S., Clavel convinced Palma’s wife to withdraw $7 million from Palma’s U.S. bank account.
Once Clavel had all that money in cash, he beheaded Palma’s wife in San Francisco. Then, the Guadalajara Cartel delivered Palma his wife’s severed head. After murdering Palma’s wife, Clavel kidnapped her children, aged four and five, and took them to Venezuela, where he threw them off a bridge to their deaths.
Clavel was arrested and stabbed to death in Venezuela after killing Palma’s children. After this tragic episode of his life, they said Palma had no mercy in ordering killings. One example is the case of Cardinal Juan Jesús Posadas Ocampo who was gunned down with a machine gun in front of the Guadalajara Airport
