Michael Steranka, the Brand Activations Manager at Sony Computer Entertainment America, said that PlayStation fans will be able to see the E3 live in more than 85 cinemas from the United States, Canada and this year, Latin America.
The actual event is going to take place at Los Angeles convention center, and Sony gamers are spread all around the world including the whole American continent. Since not everyone can afford tickets and accommodation, most fans have to wait a couple days to download and watch the event, but this year is different, especially for the Latin American gaming community.
“In 2014, we had this crazy idea to partner with Fathom Events and broadcast our E3 Press Conference LIVE to some theaters North America, not knowing if this was something people would even be interested in attending. Two years later, and we’ve had to more than double our seating capacity to accommodate everybody!” Said Michael Steranka on Sony’s official blog.
A night on the movies or a nerd fest?
PlayStation Network is the service where every proud owner of a PlayStation converge to play on-line, purchase things and debate important things, such as mods, tactics and complaints which are harmless but plentiful. The last survey, carried out in April 2016, counted more than 100 million registered users with at least 65 million of them active every single month. That is a lot of people wanting to enter Los Angeles convention center at the same time, but even if it was possible, things are just not that simple. A big portion of these fans live overseas, and even if they live abroad, paying for an airplane ticket and a hotel is not an option for many. They could go to the movies, though.
The E3 experience allows people to see the event live in the movie theater with a huge screen and excellent audio. But when hundreds of fans get into a cinema, things get loud. They are very different from a normal movie fan crowd that politely applauds when the movie ends, these people develop sincere love for their favorite games and are expecting any kind of news about them.
There is always more
One of the big parts of going to a convention are souvenirs, and god there is a lot of that in an E3. For the people seeing the event in one of the participating cinemas it is not going to be any different. Coca-Cola partnered with Sony and created a custom E3 experience Cup which will be given to attendees. In addition, fans will have the one and only opportunity of getting their hands on the #37 PlayStation card collectible series.
Tickets will have no cost and will be available at the official E3 Experience website starting May 31 at 10:00A.M. Pacific Time. Latin American fans have to be extra alert because the official list of participating cinemas is yet to be announced at Sony’s official blog for the region.
