St. Louis, Missouri – The traditional 4th of July event Fair St. Louis has rescheduled its Sunday program due to torrential rains that put the St. Louis area under a flash flood warning, according to the National Weather Service.
The Fair started on Saturday, and it ends today with different activities, including the Purina’s Pro Plan team, Flo Rida, and Edward Jones Fireworks.
Day 2 of Fair St. Louis started 3 hours later than schedule because of the weather. The area was under a flash flood alert until 01:00 a.m. Monday, the National Weather Service declared.
Across the area Lambert-St. Louis International Airport ranged from less than a half and inch and 3 inches in Troy, Mo. According to forecasters in Columbia, Mo., more than 6 inches of rain were reported.
Rain is expected to continue until Monday, and temperatures will remain mild, with around 81ºF as the highest temperature.
St. Louis Mayor Francis Slay announced on Twitter the delay on Sunday program, saying that the weather included lighting.
On Saturday, the Forest Park gates opened at 04:00 p.m. and the program was modified: Cowboy Mouth took the stage at 05:00 p.m.; Eddie Money at 06:30 p.m.; and Sammy Hagar and the Circle at 08:00 p.m. The fireworks began at 09:30 p.m.
Day 2 included The Lake Saint Louis Water Ski Club, but the show was canceled for the day. But, on Monday, the will perform twice, at 02:10 p.m. and at 5:40 p.m
Steve Posaric, General Chairman of the Fair St. Louis, said they have a magic house exhibit, a rock climbing wall, juggles and a steam exhibit, apart from the musical shows.
For Independence Day, the forecast says there is 50 percent chance of rain, with a high of 84 ºF.
Last year, organizers said that Fair St. Louis received more than 250 thousand people, had 20 entertainers, and it was marked as a “Fair Like Never Before.”
Forest Park offers scenic park views during the day and fireworks by night. The park offers a unique venue and it also was the celebration place of the 2015 Fair St. Louis.
Forest Park hosted the 1904 World’s Fair, which started the tradition of ice cream cones and hot dog in a what is called now a fair.
Since 1981, The Fair St. Louis Foundation – know in the past as the Veiled Prophet Fair Foundation – and the City of St. Louis make possible a spectacular celebration each year to commemorate the Fourth of July weekend. The festival features live music, educational activities, air shows and incredible fireworks.
On Monday, the Park opened as it was planned. The final firework show will also be at 09:30 p.m by Edward Jones Fireworks, after Flo Rida’s performance on the Budweiser Stage.
