Ford announced the specs of their new GT supercar

Even when the Ford GT debuted over two years ago at the North American International Auto Show in Detroit, it was this Wednesday when the automaker revealed the specs of its supercar. The company announced the car’s horsepower, torque, weight, and top speed.

According to the automaker, the car has 647 horses and 550 lb-ft of torque from the GT’s 3.5-liter EcoBoost twin-turbo V6. However, it’s important to remember that the GT model uses the same aluminum engine block as the one present in the 3.5-liter EcoBoost made or the Ford F-150.

The company said that the overall weight of the vehicle is 3054 lbs, as the car can achieve a top speed of 216 miles per hour. This means that the Ford’s GT is the fastest model ever presented by the automaker in its history.

Even when there was not published information regarding the car’s acceleration, experts assume that the GT model could hit up to 60 mph in a matter of 3 seconds or less. Most of the current vehicles of that class have that feature and experts are confident that the GT would not stay behind.

Comparison to other brands’ similar models

Two car models in the market compete with the Ford’s GT supercar: the McClaren 675LT and the Ferrari 488GTB.

The overall weight of the McClaren was of 2982 lbs, quite less than the 3000 pounds present in the GT. The 675 LT has a 666 horsepower, and 516 lb-ft of torque are produced by the 675LT’s 3.5-liter twin-turbo V8. These specs allow this model to reach a top speed of 205 mph.

Regarding the Ferrari 488GTB, it weighs 3252 pounds, and it has 66o of horsepower. Also, it has 561 lb-ft of torque that allows the car to achieve a top speed of 205 mph, just as the McClaren model. The conclusion is that even when the Ford GT has a deficiency on horsepower and some extra weight, stills leads the race concerning the top speed of similar models.

“We achieved a lot of weight savings with the carbon fiber monocoque and aluminum structure,” Raj Nair, Executive Vice President of Product Development and Chief Technical Officer at Ford, told Road &Track.

The first production of these models is conducted by Canada’s Multimatic in Markham, Ontario. The approximate number of cars produced every year is 250, and some of the models are already being delivered in several countries.
