On Monday, Detroit citizens celebrated the annual happening of the Ford Fireworks show which marks the beginning of the summer prior to the 4th of July. With over 10,000 fireworks the show aims its viewers to be optimistic in the future.
Downtown Detroit received over 45,000 attendees this Monday when the city’s skyline was filled with lights celebrating the beginning of the summer. From one end to the other Detroit’s river reflected the lights in the sky.
The event started at 9:00 pm, but attendees arrived at the Hart Plaza around 4:00 pm with land chairs, picnic blankets, and friends to enjoy the show produced by The Parade Co. and brought by Zambelli Fireworks.
The Pyrotechnic effects light miles of the river between the city of Detroit and Ontario. Meanwhile, watchers enjoy the 58th anniversary of the event sponsored by Ford company.
This year the event’s slogan was “Go Forward Detroit”, as a positive empowerment for citizens. The company also announced a fundraiser called the “Rooftop Party” in which attendees would enjoy the view of the show and celebrate the city.
An annual celebration
The event was guarded by the Detroit Police. Meanwhile, traffic officers were in charged of the crowded cars on Jefferson Avenue and at Belle Isle Park, were many reaches for a good parking spot to enjoy the view.
The Mt. Elliot Park, as well as the Owens and Erma Henderson Park, were highly recommended viewing areas for the show.
“The Ford Fireworks show has become the jewel of the summer and a tradition we’ve celebrated together as a region for 58 years,” announced Tony Michaels the CEO of the Parade Company in a statement.
Ford allowed a maximum of 1,000 vehicles to park after 2 p.m at Belle Isle this year since it’s one of the most popular spots to watch the show and tends to get crowded. The Yankee Air Museum is also collaborating with the even with a flyover of vintage planes.
The fundraiser called ‘Rooftop Party’ will collect money for community events in the city and different events of The Parade Company, allowing party-goers to enjoy food from Andiamo, interactive games for children, live concerts, and cocktails while enjoying the firework show.
The city of Detroit issued a six-page news release explaining the rules for the event, to prevent incidents and maintain a healthy family environment. Including the van of alcohol at the plaza, no pets, tents, weapons, fires allowed, the news release assured the square would be closed once it reaches its limits and that backpacks and coolers would be searched by city officials.
