Just like winter, the sixth season of Game of Thrones is coming, and it will hit up on HBO this April 24. We got two sides from the story, where on one hand we got HBO president Michael Lombardo, who stated that he “Would I love the show to go 10 years as both a fan and a network executive? Absolutely”.
But on the other hand, we got the show creator Dan Weiss, who said that if they “pushed” their plan run of 13 more episodes after this season, their fear is that Game of Thrones falls apart and loses its heat.
That’s when the author R.R. Martin comes out with a new idea: A spin-off. R.R. Martin stated an example from a series he used to watch as a kid known as “The Naked City”, where “Every episode ended with a voice-over that said: There are eight million stories in the naked city. This has been one of them”. He said that “There are eight million stories in Westeros as well…and even more in Essos and the lands beyond. A whole world full of stories, waiting to be told…if indeed HBO is interested.”
Dunk & Egg would be the most natural follow-up for the sixth season, where the story is settled 89 years before the events of A Song of Ice and Fire that could be done as a two-hour stand-alone movie for television; that would probably be the ideal way to do them, rather than as an ongoing weekly series so the fans might have something to keep hung up every Sunday.
Back in the fifth
On the previous season, it was revealed that the Night’s King is the leader of the mysterious beings known as the White Walkers.
Also, before Jon Snow was cruelly murdered in a mutiny, he had planned on fighting the White Walkers by creating an alliance with the wildlings, where he felt that Westeros had a chance to defeat the mysterious creatures if the wildlings fought side-by-side with the men of Castle Black and the North, so a war might be close this season maybe? Let’s just see what will be going on.
The adventure keeps on
Martin wants to actually adapt these Dunk & Egg stories into some kind of filmed property for a while but admits there’s a snag.
Back in 2014, he said that “HBO, when acquiring the rights to the Song of Ice and Fire novels, also acquired film and television rights to the world of Westeros. So if we did Dunk & Egg with anyone else, we would need to remove all the references to House Targaryen, the Iron Throne, etc.”
