Google has partnered with Acer to offer a video conferencing device for smaller meetings in areas like office phone booths or desktops. The newly-launched Acer Chromebase is an all-in-one device that comes with its own display and unlike other Chromebase gadgets made both by LG and Acer, this one is specially designed for video conferences.
The device is available in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, Ireland and Australia, according to The Verge. Google said Chromebase for meetings will be released in other markets soon. Businesses paying $799 for the video conference system don’t have to worry about management and support fees for one year since they are included in the price.
Alphabet’s company promised the video conferencing device was easy to use and Acer claimed the 24-inch, the 1080p touchscreen was the largest on any chrome OS apparat.
The Chromebase for meetings comes with an HD adjustable conferencing camera, as well as two stereo speakers and a four-mic array of microphones. The gadget can support up to 25 participants when connected to Google Hangout meetings, even with people who don’t have a Google account.
It includes three ports at the back for USB 3.0, one for USB 2.0, another one for headphones and an SD card reader.
The video conference system also tracks schedules and includes remote management tools to enable an office’s IT team to troubleshoot issues such as video or audio quality.
Acer’s Chromebase was presented at the 2016 Consumer Electronics Show but that one didn’t include Google’s enterprise software like the latest version does.
Customers can now choose between two solutions for their video conference needs
Chromebase is Google’s second video conferencing device launched with Acer. The first one, Chromebox for meetings, was released in 2014 without a screen but it’s still available on the market for customers who need solutions for larger meeting areas. On the other hand, the just-launched system is designed for smaller spaces with two people joined in one room.
