Google makes your life easier with the ‘free up space’ button

Google announced a little but important update to “Google photos” on its web page this Wednesday. From now on, the app is going to tell the user when the smartphone or tablet is running out of memory and it will give people the option of liberating space by deleting all the pictures and videos that are backed up.

Smartphones are great; they are fast, practical and modern. With a lot of features like HD videos, high-res pictures and access to the internet, they are the perfect device for anyone, right? Unfortunately, not all of them support SSD cards, which is pretty inconvenient. Many times, users find themselves having too many pictures and videos for their phones to handle which forces them to delete a lot of things they actually want to keep in order to get new stuff.

Google seems to understand this and now allows people to save time and precious memories. The process is simple. The users get into Google Photos and manually select all those pictures and videos they want to back up on the cloud. When they finish, they simply tap the “free up space” icon and the app will erase every single copy that is stored in the physical device. If they want to have access to them again, they just have to get into the app and there they are, safe and sound.

But what if you are one of those clueless people who has no idea how much free space there is left? Well, the app will keep track for you and tell you when your storage capacity is running low.

“So take more photos and videos. And stop worrying about filling up your phone in the process.” reads the article.

However, Apple users will have to wait since the update is now only available for Android. Android users just have to go to the play store and look for the v1.9 update to get it.
