Washington, D.C. – Matthew “Matt” Mead, the Governor from Wyoming, visited Washington, D.C. to testify before the U.S. Senate Committee on Environment and Public Works Subcommittee specialized in Fisheries, Water, and Wildlife, as well as the U.S. House of Representatives Committee on Natural Resources.
Matt Mead is Chairman of the Western Governors’ Association (WGA) and is the front head of a delegation of other governors in Washington, D.C.
“This is an opportunity for Western Governors to share insights directly with Congress,” Governor Mead stated as Oil City reported.
According to a survey that was released on August, 63 percent of Americans are convinced that Endangered Species Act (ESA), is obsolete by this time of history and that it should be updated. The survey was lead by Morning Consult.
The Schedule
On Monday, governor Meat went to the Senate to discuss the ESA. The subject was, “Improving the Endangered Species Act: Perspectives from the Fish and Wildlife Service and State Governor.” On this first encounter, Mead claimed that state governments are better prepared to work with landowners on ESA issues.
“The Endangered Species Act is broken and changes need to be made. I am confident we can work with environmental groups and others to improve the Act. There are also numerous ways the federal government can better engage with states and Western Governors will address them,” Matt Mead stated as Oil City proclaimed.
He also added that he was not saying that the Endangered Species Act was not important. But instead, he focused on finding ways to improve the species’ lives, for citizens, for industries and businesses. He said, “I think there is ground to be had there,” Montana OTG reported.
By tomorrow morning, Governor Mead will address state authorities on proficiency in resource management and energy development before the House of Representatives Committee on Natural Resources. The subject will be “Respecting State Authority, Responsibilities and Expertise Regarding Resource Management and Energy Development.”
“Western Governors have particular expertise in natural resources. We continue to work with our Congressional delegations on these issues,” Meat stated, according to Oil City.
