On Friday, an unknown intruder was arrested after trying to access the White House by jumping the fence. The Secret Service made a quick detention of the person, who had already thrown a backpack before the arrest.
The incident happened about 11:45 on the north side of the president’s residence. The intruder was charged with unlawful entry and transported to Washington Metropolitan Police Department, said Secret Service spokesman Robert Hoback in an email to Reuters.
However, the name of the intruder has not been provided and remains unknown even the gender of the person. The content of the backpack has not been determined either, but there was no indication from the Secret Service statement that it contained any weapon.
It was unclear whether the president was in the residence at the time of the fence jumper incident, but it is known that he was in Washington due to a nuclear security summit on Friday and Saturday.
In a statement, the Secret Service also commented that the White House has returned to normal operations.
