What have the most germ? The prize goes to the Dyson Airblade jet hand dryers, where new studies indicate that Dyson Airblade spread about 60 times more germs than regular jet hand dryers but also have 1,300 times more germs than toilet paper, according to the Journal of Applied Microbiology published in January.
University of Westminster researchers were the ones that were carrying out the research, where they dipped their hands into water containing a harmless virus then they dried their hands with a Dyson Airblade, a standard hot-air dryer, or a paper towel to find out the lousy truth.
According to the findings of the study, the Dyson drier’s blasts about 430 mph of air and it’s capable of spreading viruses up to 3 meters across a bathroom, where the standard drier spread viruses 75 cm, and the hand towels 25 cm.
Dyson didn’t leave that the study got away with murder, later they had said that the results are not accurate because of the “artificial conditions” under which the study was conducted.
A gust of germs?
“The work we have done has gone through a rigorous process of peer review by three experts. In addition, the fact remains that many individuals do not wash their hands thoroughly and/or do not use any kind of soap or sanitizer and this means that if their hands are contaminated with a pathogen it may still be present after ‘washing’. We were testing this scenario in our study,” one of the study authors, Dr. Patrick Kimmitt, stated.
As a “fight back,” in late 2014, Dyson published a video on YouTube in response to “questionable reports commissioned and reported by the paper towel and cotton roll towel manufacturers trying to make Dyson Airblade seem unhygienic.”
After knowing now that Dyson Airblade dryers’ can spread about 1,300 more germs than a common dryer and paper towels, we could even consider use our jeans or just simply wait that water dries up with the wind by just shaking them up. Consciousness and awareness should be present now since virus like Norovirus have a very low infectious dose, and fewer than 50 virus particles can give rise to a nasty infection. So this means that it is perfectly possible for hands to carry one million of these particles after using the toilet.
