J.K. Rowling, author of Harry Potter books, engaged in a Twitter feud with fellow countryman and journalist Piers Morgan after Rowling commented on Morgan being told to “f**k off.”
It all started when Morgan, 51, appeared on HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher show on February 10, alongside Australian comedian Jimm Jeffries. During a heated discussion over Trump’s immigration ban, the pair did not seem to agree, Wetpaint wrote.
Morgan disapproved calling the executive order a “Muslim ban” to what Jeffries refuted with a Hitler reference: “Give him a f**king chance, mate. Hitler didn’t kill the Jews on the first day, he worked up to it,” said the Australian show guest.
Morgan then insisted the ban was not aimed at Muslims and that those kinds of arguments were merely “hysterical, ridiculous, over-the-top nonsense.” Jeffries responded saying that if people had gotten “hysterical” in Nazi Germany right at the beginning, the story might have been a whole lot different. He ended his defense with a plain “f**k off!,” prompting cheers and applauses from the studio crowd.
Meanwhile, Rowling, also 51, was watching the debate and couldn’t help but share a piece of her thoughts on the matter, not knowing she would get into a brawl herself. Or maybe she was used to winning Twitter disputes since she’s been often labeled the “Queen of Twitter.”
“Yes, watching Piers Morgan being told to f**k off on live TV is *exactly* as satisfying as I’d always imagined,” Rowling posted on her Twitter account, gaining thousands of likes and retweets across the Twittersphere.
The British television personality, who’s been known to be friendly with Trump after participating and winning the finals of The Apprentice’s seventh season, took to Twitter as well to lash out at the author “who wrote a few wizard books,” he said. He has been widely criticized for expressing his support for the recent travel ban, as reported by Wetpaint.
Morgan tweeted that her attitude was the reason he never read a single word of her famous books. The exchange didn’t end there.
“If only you’d read Harry Potter, you’d know the downside of sucking up to the biggest bully in school is getting burned alive,” said Rowling in a witty comeback addressed to her adversary.
Morgan turned the tables and pointed out that the bigger bullies were those celebrities with Anti-Trump affiliations that were still sore over Clinton’s failure.
The two Brits continued the back-and-forth, and things escalated, with J.K. calling Piers “fact-free,” “amoral,” and “toady.” While Piers disregarded her claims, declaring that being told to “f**ck off” didn’t change the fact everything he had said was based on facts, as seen on Wetpaint.
We are pretty certain Rowling won
The Twitter fight came to a conclusion when Rowling posted a picture showing her winning the British Book of the Year recognition in 2006, the same year an autobiography by Piers Morgan was also a contender for the title. She hashtagged the image “StillHurts,” according to Wetpaint.
The Independent took the words out of most spectators’ mouths, stating: “JK Rowling is systematically humiliating Piers Morgan in front of millions.”
The Fault in Our Stars writer John Green also took a stab at tackling Morgan’s behavior via Twitter. However, that one didn’t catch on, as Piers rapidly ended it with a “who are you?”
