The Awards
Seventeen years ago, executive producers Michael Burg and Bob Bain discussed the idea of an award show for young people. The men decided to be closer to ‘MTV’ that to the ‘Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards’, and so, the Teen Choice Awards were created, to honor what teenagers consider the biggest yearly achievements in movies, music, sports and fashion.
The show distinguish itself by awarding non-traditional categories, such as ‘Liplock’, ‘Hissy Fit’, ‘Selfie Taker’ and ‘Instagrammer’. The awards are also famous for its surfboard trophies. However, in 2014, it was shown how producers reserved the right to choose the winners, which meant the votes could be deemed invalid at any point.
