On Thursday, in a concert made in San Jose, California, Kanye West told the assistants a full summary of his political stance by showing his support for Donald Trump.
The famous and polemic rapper said that he didn’t vote on Election Day, but if he did, he would have voted for the Republican Party Candidate, and the winner of the race, Donald Trump. As soon as these declarations were made, the booing was immediate and loud. West proceeded to explain that him voting for Trump doesn’t mean that he endorses Trump´s vision of the nation and the world. He declared that he was in favor of Black Lives Matter initiative, gay marriage, and women´s rights.
He claimed that among the things people think should define his support to the other candidate is because he is “black” and a “celebrity.” And for this reason, he showed himself happy while saying that “Trump is our president. And that would’ve been my vote, so I feel right.”
He added that he admires the way that Trump´s manages politics and that this particular feature is one of the primary things that would have helped on deciding a candidate to vote for.
“There’s nonpolitical methods to speaking that I like, that I feel were very futuristic. And that style, and that method of communication have proven that it can beat a politically correct way of communication. And I [agree] with that. I actually think that his approach was absolutely genius. Because it … worked!” West told the confused Californian crowd.
A glimpse of political Kanye
Between song and song, West spoke about how he sees the world and what can be improved and fixed. He began the trace of a possible 2020 presidential candidature, possibility that he has pointed out in the past, several times.
He talked about education reform and said that new methods must be employed in American schools. He criticized the current education system, claiming that works with a “1930s idea of how to put everyone in the same factory.” He proposed the creation of a new type of schools oriented to the “post-internet” education.
Kanye expressed himself about racism, as he told the people present in the concert that the US was a “racist country.” He also said that we live in a racist world and that that fact has to be embraced by everyone. West explained that neither of the candidates could solve that problem, and for that reason, he thinks that it shouldn’t be a subject to focus on.
According to Mashable, concertgoers claimed to have listened Kanye talked about immigration in one of his freestyle raps. In Twitter, users posted a quote about Trump´s wall project that said: “I hope they build the wall, I hope they get rid of them all.”
In the concert, Kanye confirmed his intention to run for the White House on 2020. And the best way for doing that, he said, was collecting the best visions from all the candidates, winners or losers, to represent all the interests and values of all Americans.
West assured that whoever the president is, it has to be a person that combines the best of every major leader, in order to succeed in having a body of “collective ideas” that should be used to run the country the best way possible. He warned that if nobody could do this, he was going to run and make it “all more clear.”
Kanye then proposed Hillary Clinton, Barack Obama and Ben Carson to work alongside with Donald Trump, as consultants, and don’t let that political parties get in the middle of the nation´s greater good.
Kanye and his confusing and polemic posture
It all began back in 2005, when after the tremendous Hurricane Katrina, West made the first of many controversial statements. “George Bush doesn’t care about black people,” Kanye said in a televised fundraiser. He then apologized, and former President Bush accepted, but still revived discussions across the country about racism.
However, that wasn’t the only time that West and a POTUS had an altercation. Back in 2009, a leaked recording of Barack Obama showed the President saying that Kanye West was a “jackass.” This came days after West crashed the VMAs and disrespected Taylor Swift on national TV.
Also, when hearing about West possible candidature in 2020, President Obama did make an official comment.
“I do have some advice for him. … First of all, you’ve got to spend a lot of time dealing with some strange characters who behave like they’re on a reality TV show,” the President said in an interview.
On the entertainment world, almost every one of West´s peer musicians backed Hillary Clinton´s campaign, by performing at rallies or just making statements in favor of the Democrat Party Candidate. Jay-Z, Beyoncé, Chance the Rapper, among others are a few examples. Even his wife, Kim Kardashian West, posted a photo with Clinton last year while rooting for her.
In fact, West appeared in the picture that still can be seen on Kardashian´s Twitter account, which makes Kanye´s political stance even more confusing. We will have to wait until 2020 to have more certain information of this polemic character and possible presidential candidate.
