Even though it was no secret, Kristen Stewart, 26, has publicly confirmed she is dating a woman, more specifically, film producer Alicia Cargile.
The actress opened up in an interview with Elle UK, stating that she is ‘really in love.’ She also accepted Cargile and her have been in a relationship previously and broken up. Both have been photographed together in the past, but never spoke about the relationship. Stewart has stated the secrecy had nothing to do with the fact that her partner was female.
She said that she was just a private when she was dating men since she always felt her relationships became trivialized by the media. However, Stewart claimed that she decided to be a little bit more open to avoid people to interpret the silence as if she were ashamed.
Even though she doesn’t like paparazzi, the actress also told the magazine that she was okay with being photographed with her girlfriend, on the contrary, she wants to make sure her young fans that could be facing the same thing do not feel like it’s something that should be hidden.
Kristen Stewart career started when she appeared in Speak (2004), Catch That Kid (2004), Zathura (2005), and Into The Wild (2007). She also was cast as Bella Swan in the Twilight Saga film series.
Previous relationships
Stewart’s love life has always been controversial. In 2008 she started dating her Twilight co-star Robert Pattinson, in the midst of media frenzy.
The low-key couple became so popular that fans used to call themselves “Robsten,” in the fans minds, the couple was a real-life representation of their characters in Twilight, Edward, and Bella.
Stewart might have referenced this in the interview with Elle UK when she stated that “we were turned into these characters and placed into this ridiculous comic book, and I was like, ‘That’s mine. You’re making my relationship something that it’s not.’ I didn’t like that.”
In 2012, Stewart was accused of cheating with her director in Snow White and the Huntsman, Rupert Sanders. That same day Stewart released a public apology to Pattinson, but in the end, they broke up.
Years later in 2015, rumors surrounding Stewart and Cargile begun. After a while, the pair split up, and Stewart started dating, French singer-songwriter Stéphanie Sokolinski, better known as Soko. Soko confirmed the relationship herself in an interview with W magazine. The relationship ended a few months after.
A matter of sexual orientation
In the XX century, Hollywood kept quiet about its stars’ sexual orientation. Marlene Dietrich, for example, was bisexual and used to enjoy the Berlin gay scene in the 1920s. Her image was very androgynous, and so were her films roles.
In the XXI century, Ellen DeGeneres and Portia de Rossi may be the most famous lesbian couple of entertainment. Movie icons Tilda Swinton and Jodie Foster have also come forward regarding their sexual orientation. Amber Heard, who is in the midst of an infamous divorce with fellow actor Johnny Depp, has declared herself bisexual.
