Texas- San Antonio Police Department crowded La Cantera Parkway after several people reported to 911 that someone was shooting at the passing cars between Loop 1604 and I-10. The hunt for the man was called off after hours of searching and finding no one matching the witnesses description.
Some of the callers said the shooter was a man wearing a white shirt, and others stated the gunman was a white man using a tactical vest. Some people reported that the shots were aiming the cars passing by and others said to the 911 emergency service that the gunman was shooting into the air.
Police swarmed the area but did not find the shooter, although they found shell casings on the scene. Officer Doug Greene declined to say how many shells the police found but said the reports started around 09:30 a.m. Thursday.
As a precaution, police officers shut down the street and urged motorist to use alternate routes. A police helicopter flew the area in the hunt for the possible shooter, but the crew did not see any person engaging to the street nor carrying a gun.
Some witnesses insisted the shooter was in a vehicle and others reported he was on foot. Some people said that the gunman was hiding inside the Shops at La Cantera, but the information turned out to be false.
The shell casings were found at two locations in the scene, but because no one has reported a bullet to their cars or any injured, the case is complicated to investigate. Officer Greene said that they do not have victims nor vehicles in the case to use them as evidence to trace the gunman.
“No one has called to say that their vehicle has been struck by any gunfire. We did locate some shell casings. I can’t confirm the specific locations of those shell casings, but (they were located) here in the vicinity,” stated Officer Greene.
Precautions were taken
As a precaution, the Northside Independent School District was placed on a modified lockdown, according to district spokesperson Barry Perez. Among the schools affected by the lockdown were May, Ellison, and Leon Springs Elementary. The lockdown did not stop activities inside the schools, but limited and secured exterior entrances.
Surrounding La Cantera is also The San Antonio Police Department and the UTSA Police Department. The Texas Military Institute is also near the scene and underwent a look down as well.
After two hours of search in the area, La Cantera Parkway and its routes were reopened. After some more hours, the San Antonio police ended the pursuit of the gunman. No one was arrested.
