Nintendo has just revealed new features for Mario Kart Deluxe 8, the new Nintendo Switch game that promises to be the best Mario Kart ever made. The Japan-based video game company released the game’s trailer this Friday so people could get a peek at what’s in store for them in this new edition. The $60 game will be available on April 28, and it will feature new characters, battle modes, returning items and even a new accessory.
Nintendo hopes that Mario Kart Deluxe 8 will restore people’s love for Mario Kart, seeing that their last edition for Wii U only sold 14 million copies, a step back from the 36 million copies sold for the prior Wii version. It’s a portable version of the game, but players can enjoy it at 1080 and 60 frames per second on TV, an upgrade from Wii U’s 720p resolution.
Mario Kart 8’s new characters
The game counts with brand new features, including a group of characters. Gamers now will be able to choose Inkling Girl, Inkling Boy and returning characters King Boo, Dry Bones and Bowser Jr., adding a total of 42 characters to the roster. Gold Mario will also be available for any player that can complete all cups in 200cc, and the Mii will be up for grabs too.
Battle Modes
Mario Kart Deluxe 8 also counts with new battle modes. Players can enjoy the usual and beloved modes like the classic Balloon Battle, the Bob-omb Blast Mode from Mario Kart: Double Dash, the coin-obsessed challenge from Mario Kart Wii and the Shine Thief. However, there’s a new battle mode called The Renegade Roundup, which has one team trying to capture the other and put them into jail before time runs out. “The opposing team must try to escape and can break their own teammates out of prison by pressing a button under the jail cell,” said Nintendo.
The game will have 48 courses available from the start, five speed classes, including the 150cc Mirror Mode and the 200cc mode. Players will be able to play Mario Kart in four different ways: “up to four friends on a single Nintendo Switch console in TV mode, online multiplayer –two local racers can play in 12-player races with people around the world-, Wireless Play that allows up to eight people with Nintendo Switch consoles to connect with each other and LAN Play, that allows up to 12 consoles in TV mode to connect,” said Nintendo.
