Supporters of the medical marijuana demanded a permission be granted for using cannabis to curb addictions. This occurred after people started claiming they have been able to quit painkillers and heroin when on marijuana.
It can be used to relieve the pain of many conditions, and recent studies have shown that it could even prevent opioids and addictions to heroin and painkillers. But, despite studies that support the use of marijuana as a treatment for avoiding addiction to certain drugs, doctors say these findings aren’t enough to qualify marijuana for treatment.
Studies did not conclude accurately if marijuana is really an effective treatment for opioids, addiction to heroin and related painkillers, according to those who oppose to using medical marijuana to treat such conditions.
More and more people are supporting medical marijuana
Those who support marijuana held their augments based on a study published in Journal of Pain, which found t that after taking medical cannabis, chronic pain sufferers significantly reduced their opioid use; also, there’s a study published last year in the of the American Medical Association, which concludes that cannabis could effectively treat chronic pain and other ailments.
“I don’t think it’s a cure for everybody. But why to take a solution off the table when people are telling us and physicians are telling us that it’s working?” said Maine Rep. Diane Russell, a Portland Democrat and a leader in the state effort to legalize marijuana.
Lawmakers and advocates are intrigued by the number of patients claiming marijuana helped them drop the painkiller habit, reported Michael Casey in Kree.
A forum gave to attendees an unscheduled taste of the desperation that plenty of patients and their families have experienced to find something that could provide relief to serious pain, according to a report published in Nationaldailypress.
The speakers of the forum suggest people to ask their doctors to be willing to recommend medical marijuana for their patients if they consider there’s a chance it could help because it will allow patients to obtain medical marijuana cards and have access to licensed dispensaries.
