Motorola (NYSE: MSI) announced on Tuesday the new generation of its Moto G devices, and its Plus option as well. The Moto G will be arriving in the U.S. on July 12 prized at $199.99. Pre-orders are currently available.
The device is set to be released already unlocked, it will support all U.S. carriers on GSM, AT&T and T-Mobile, and CDMA networks, Verizon and Sprint, as reported by Mashable.
Is set to be sold on Amazon.com, Best Buy, BrandsMart, B&H, Car Toys, Fry’s, MicroCenter, Motorola.com, Sam’s Club and Walmart.com. In addition, the Moto G 4 and Moto G 4 Plus will be available at Republic Wireless beginning July 28.
According to a statement from Motorola, smartphones should focus on meaningful technology that prioritizes the thing people really care about, like capturing great pictures, having lasting battery or being able to switch carriers when and if needed.
“But according to a new survey we conducted among U.S. smartphone users, there are common misperceptions about another meaningful feature of a smartphone, being unlocked,” Motorola wrote in a blog post. “The majority of people we surveyed are confused about what a universally unlocked phone offers or even what, exactly, an unlocked phone is.”
The company explained that the benefits of being unlocked can vary, but the most interesting fact was that people had several misconceptions about what an unlocked phone stands for. 1 in 5 people thought that an unlocked phone was expensive, and 1 in 10 thought phones had to be hacked after a purchase.
Some of the benefits were unknown to the public according to the survey from Motorola, only 27 percent knew that an unlocked phone could be used with any carrier worldwide and 76 percent did not know that it did not require a 2-year contract in comparison to locked phones.
A new generation’s arrival
The Moto G is the series fourth generation and was unveiled in May among two new handsets designed for all-day usage and better photography, as reported by PC Magazine. The new devices and the plus version, valued at $249.99, are already on sale in Brazil and India with others markets in mind such as Europe, Latin America and Asia.
Motorola’s devices, the budget-focused, have shown a solid performance over the last years, some critics assured. Even though they do not always have the best camera or the latest processor, the bloatware-free devices with low prices may be the best option in the market within its category.
Another advance for the company, is its handset, the Moto G Play that runs a clutter-free version of Android on a quad-core processor. The device also comes with a 2,800 mAh battery set to arrive globally later this summer.
