Netflix reunites That ’70s Show teens on Netflix’s The Ranch

Ashton Kutcher and Danny Masterson are back together on Netflix comedy The Ranch, a show that marks the reunion of the once teen guys after Fox’s That ’70s Show. Kutcher portrays Colt, a boy who returns to the family ranch to get involved in typical ranch activities and to repair his relationship with his underappreciated older brother. The show arrives on Friday.

“When we were working on That ’70s Show, we always had this dream about doing another show together,” Kutcher commented, according to a report by USA Today. The Fox comedy ran eight seasons and ended in 2006. “I moved to Los Angeles when I was 19. Danny became an older brother to me, showing me the ropes.”

Masterson revealed the two actors had some rivalry typical of relationships between siblings. He said they have been making fun of each other since 1998 and compared their bond to that of a couple of alpha males who never give into the other.

But the previous show is completely difference from this new sitcom. Kutcher is not a teen, but a man over his 30s who moves back home and finds himself trying to reroute his life. Besides, Netflix makes it possible for episodes to run longer than 22 minutes and they don’t need to adjust the story to commercial breaks, which brings a new sitcom experience.

The Ranch also has more drama than That ’70s Show, with Colt having tense episodes with Rooster and their complicated father and conservative rancher Beau. Their mother Maggie runs a bar in their Colorado town.

Moreover, the two guys are now adults. Masterson puts it this way: While on That ’70s Show Hyde and Kelso used to smoke joints on the basement, The Ranch features Colt and Rooster drinking whiskey on the porch.

Kutcher sees some links between the two sitcoms, though. He says both shows address difficult family situations and parent-child relationships, as well as the search for love by the young men.

Ashton Kutcher suggested that other cast members of That ’70s Show might appear on the Netflix sitcom

It remains unclear whether Netflix will reunite other cast members of the Fox comedy, but Kutcher said it was highly probable. He didn’t deny the possibility of his wife Mila Kunis appearing on The Ranch. The couple met on That ’70s Show. Other 70s alumni include Laura Prepon, Topher Grace, and Wilmer Valderrama.
