The National Football League (NFL) recently announced its broadcast partnership with social media Twitter. Users can now enjoy Thursday Night Football on the social media along with tweets relating to the game.
For the first time, an NFL game will be broadcasted on Twitter on Thursday 15th when the New York Jets face the Buffalo Bills in the field. The show will be available for anyone that has a Twitter app and a smart device.
According to the NFL’s announcement, the broadcasts will be available on the platform for ten Thursday Night Games in a row as a way to test the new platform and see how users react to the new feature.
Twitter Broadcast
It’s not a secret that Twitter is the primary source of debates and controversy, but it’s also the place where football fans attend to get the scoop on the game they couldn’t watch or to discuss the result.
That is why the NFL chose Twitter over Verizon and Yahoo in the broadcasting offering, Twitter already worked on the live feature, since this is all the social media is about so both of the companies decided it would be a good adding.
“Twitter is where live events unfold and are the right partner for the NFL as we take the latest step in serving fans around the world live,” informed Roger Goodell the NFL’s commissioner in a written statement.
The NFL informed that the primary objective of the initiative was to transform and offer a more innovative way to watch football. The live stream will be available to every country in the world, except for those that have limited access to the Internet and Canada who has a particular TV broadcast contract, according to the Chicago Tribune.
This is not the first time the NFL tries a new broadcasting method since it has previous partnerships with Yahoo that served as a measure to see if the initiative could work and it did, fans streamed 480 million minutes of the game according to the NFL, and it was watched in 185 countries.
The game will remain available in all sports transmitters related to CBS and the National Football League Network.
The Twitter broadcast will still feature advertisements as it does on regular television and will feature the same commentators. The social media hopes to upgrade the broadcasting with personalized Twitter timelines in the future.
