Just days after players are enjoying Nintendo’s latest console, problems started to surface. It is a no-brainer for gaming enthusiasts that new consoles will almost always present technical issues of some kind, some of which may render the console useless, like the Xbox 360’s Red Ring of Death.
Luckily, just as problems have appeared, Switch owners managed to find the ideal way to fix them. The issues have been now published online on several gaming news sites to help owners face their technical problems.
Fix your Switch
Battery: One of the biggest problems requiring a fix seems to be the Switch’s battery. In some cases, it won’t charge correctly, even when connected to other power outlets. This is because the Switch requires a lot of power to be charged, which is why it is best to do it using its own charger. Other chargers do work, but they need to be somewhere between 1.5 and 2.6 Amperes.
TV changes channel: Sometimes, when the Switch is connected it may force the TV to change the channel, usually when it is placed in its charging dock. Nintendo knows about the problem and is sure to release a patch to fix it anytime soon. The solution is to disconnect the console from the TV, and then dive into the TV settings and turn off the HDMI-CEC option, which is thought to cause the sudden change of channels. To prevent the error from occurring again, do not use the dock to charge the console while the TV is being used but only when you’re playing using the TV as a display.
The game won’t work: There’s another problem may shock Switch owners the first time it appears, and it is just plainly terrifying to see that your game console does not read its game cartridges. The Switch went back to Nintendo’s style of game carts, just like the Gameboy, the NES, and many others. These consoles’ games had the unusual fix of people blowing into their card slot to remove dust and other contaminants.
The issue is that Nintendo has explicitly stated over the years that this quick and saliva-based fix should not be performed and that the best solution is to use a cotton swab dipped in alcohol. The same can occur with the Switch, where its instruction manual states how to insert the cartridge correctly and how to address readability issues. If all fails, the best solution is to take the game to where it was initially purchased, although this is the last resort, seeing that certified Switch games are guaranteed to work with a certified Switch console.
Joy-Con loses control: A more serious issue has the Joy-Con controllers losing motion control while in-game, especially on the left Joy-Con. It appears to be caused by placing the hand over the Joy-Con’s sensor. Nintendo has recognized the issue and is now investigating. The problem can be fixed temporarily by restarting the console.
The Switch’s problems appear to be tame at most, which is good for a new console that’s expected to live up to Nintendo’s manufacturing quality and quest for innovation in gaming.
