On their latest livestream event, Nintendo revealed a bunch of games that would be released to the current generation of consoles, including more information on the Nintendo Switch.
The Nintendo Switch is set for launch on March 3 for $300 in the United States, as the company confirmed it. Prices will vary depending on the location, and it will hit the stores in the U.S., Canada, and Japan simultaneously.
Joy-Con Controllers will cost $80, and the Pro Controller will cost $70, which is way more expensive than controllers for other consoles, which rarely go over the $20 mark, even for consoles manufactured by other companies.
Nintendo Switch: Games and specs
The Switch will have a 6.2-inch 1280×720 resolution multi-touch screen, a 32GB HDD expandable storage and will use game cards, rather than CDs.
It will feature a 3.5 mm headphone jack and its battery will have a life of over six hours, although it will depend on the game it is playing at the moment and how well its Nvidia Tegra-based graphics are able to perform.
The Switch will charge thanks to a USB-C charging port, which is located in the lower part of the device.
Multiple accessories will join the Switch at launch, seeing that the console is comprised of several peripherals and gadgets to fully enjoy its portability. The accessories and their prices are as follows:
- Nintendo Switch Pro Controller – $70
- Nintendo Switch Dock Set – $90
- Joy-Con Controllers (set of two, L and R) – $80
- Joy-Con Charging Grip – $30
- Joy-Con Wheel (set of two) – $15
- Joy-Con L or Joy-Con R (sold separately) – $50
The left Joy-Con controller has a Capture Button that allows players take screenshots and share them on social media. The right Joy-Con has a touchpoint for connecting with Amiibo figurines and an infrared camera, being able to tell the distance between nearby objects and how the player’s hand is situated about the controller.
Joy-Con controllers have rumble features enabled, with varying degrees of intensity. Also, up to eight different consoles can be connected for local wireless play and the Switch has its hands-free built-in stand to play on a table. The Switch will also connect to Wi-Fi to enjoy multiplayer gaming and will require an online subscription service, which will come as a free trial with the purchase of the console.
