Nintendo has announced that starting Wednesday anyone can pre-register for its upcoming Miitomo mobile game, allowing you to create an account well ahead of time.
The new app is scheduled to be launched next month. To “pre-register” for Miitomo you will need your Nintendo ID handy, or alternatively a Facebook, Google+, or Twitter account.
Miitomo is Nintendo’s first ever mobile app. This new service represents the company’s biggest use of cloud technology to date, and will work across PCs, smartphones, and the company’s game systems, Wii U and Nintendo 3DS.
Miitomo is not exactly a game, it is basically a communication app. Nintendo describes it as “a free-to-start social experience that lets you spark conversations with your friends in a whole new way.” Basically you create a Mii, answer some questions and then send your Mii out into the ether to chat with the Miis of your friends. When it comes back, you’ll see the conversations it has had.
Benefits of pre-registering
Nintendo also announced users that pre-register will receive some benefits as getting a notification at the moment when the app is ready, and receiving some My Nintendo Platinum Points which can be used to redeem rewards as part of the My Nintendo rewards program. However, Nintendo didn’t say how many Platinum Points you’ll receive.
“Miitomo makes it easy for people to express themselves and interact with their friends in new and fun ways. Preregistering now is the best way to be among the first to get in on the fun when Miitomo launches next month.” Scott Moffitt, Nintendo of America’s Executive Vice President of Sales & Marketing, said.
Nintendo states that the app will be free to download, although, there will be in-app purchases. There is no info on what the IAPs will be used for, but it’s possible they could grant access to additional outfits for your Mii or things of that nature.
