AT&T has confirmed the price and plans for DirecTV’s online streaming service DirecTV Now, offering over 100 channels, including HBO and Cinemax.
Prices range from $35 up to $70, where the 100+ channel plan that costs $60 will be offered at $35 for the first users to sign up. Premium channels like HBO would cost an additional $5. DirecTV Now is expected to launch on Wednesday, November 30. Currently, AT&T is offering two other video streaming services, known as FreeVIEW and Fullscreen, all of which allow users to watch their favorite TV shows and digital media content.
DirecTV goes online
The service is specially dedicated for people in the U.S. who want to watch movies, series, and shows without being bound to a TV cable or satellite service, seeing that millions of American households have decided to unsubscribe from their TV service provider.
DirecTV Now will be available for download on Amazon Fire TV, Android, iPhone, iPad, and Apple TV, Chromecast when it launches, Google Cast, Chrome, Safari, and even Internet Explorer, making it so anyone subscribed can enjoy top-quality TV content without buying a decoder, additional wires or anything that can be associated with the idea of satellite and cable television.
“We’re extending our entertainment portfolio for those who value premium content but also want more TV freedom suited for their lifestyle, whether watching at home or on their mobile devices. This is TV your way,” stated John Stankey AT&T’s Entertainment Group CEO.
Fullscreen is a $5.99 per month service that provides ad-free original series, films, and TV shows coming directly from AT&T’s entertainment partners. FreeVIEW is the free-of-charge alternative, being an ad-supported video service that provides content from the AUDIENCE Network, Otter Media, and content that is also available on DirecTV Now. FreeVIEW can also be accessed from the DirecTV now app.
DirecTV Now will not have CBS channels at launch while other networks such as ABC and NBC will only feature channels where they mantain ownership of the local TV station. A recording function is also to be implemented somewhere over the course of 2017.
Users can sign up at DirecTV Now’s website to receive a 7-day free trial.
Currently, plans offered by DirecTV Now stand as follows:
– Live a Little – $35 / month (60+ channels).
– Just Right – $50 / month (80+ channels).
– Go Big – $60 / month ($35 for a limited time, 100+ channels).
– Gotta Have it – $70 / month (120+ channels).
DirecTV has also partnered with Apple to offer an Apple TV device with 3 months of pre-paid DirecTV, which is compatible with Siri, letting users enjoy a whole new TV experience. There’s also an Amazon Fire TV Stick with Alexa with 1 month of pre-paid DirecTV available for purchase.
If you’re eager to try out the new way to watch TV, now it is the time to jump right ahead and start watching your favorite shows through the internet, making DirecTV the perfect partner to Netflix, Hulu, and other similar streaming services, only that now a truly-TV based experience will be at your fingertips even without a TV.
Even when DirecTV will now offer online services, it will continue to provide its satellite TV products, including 4K HD content.
