Prince is resting at home after being treated in the hospital for about three hours on Friday due to unknown reasons. His private plane had to make an emergency landing in Illinois while the singer rushed to receive medical care while being transported in an ambulance.
The 57-year-old singer had been fighting the flu before Friday’s incident, as he was even obligated to cancel two shows on April 7 because of his sickness. However, he wanted to performance on Thursday in Atlanta even though according to his representative he was not feeling well, as reported by TMZ.
After Atlanta’s show, the singer boarded the plane and its condition got worse, so medical attention was needed and an emergency landing was held in the city of Moline at 1 a.m. Sources from TMZ assured that the singer is well and resting at home, but the nature of the medical emergency is unclear.
“While remnants of the flu that sidelined him last week and caused the postponement of these shows was apparent when he talked (he did apologize for last week’s cancellation), when Prince sang, he sounded sublime,” wrote Melissa Ruggieri of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution in a review of the performance.
Previous health issues
In previous years, the singer has revealed some of his health-related problems such as his struggle with epilepsy as a child, during a 2009 interview with Tavis Smiley. He as well has been plagued by hip problems for years, but refuse surgery due to his Jehovah’s Witness faith, as reported by the Huffington Post.
He has refused blood transfusions because of his beliefs, which makes any kind of hip replacement surgery impossible. Prince’s problems were first reported in 2005, later in 2007 and rumors of a secret surgery emerged in 2008. However, the singer did not show any sign of procedure.
