Sony Corporation (NYSE: SNE) announced that users will be able to purchase the PS4 Universal Remote after a long wait, later this month. The Universal Remote will let users control up to three devices, besides the PS4, including a TV, a cable box, an audio device, and apps on Blu-Rays and DVD’s.
The universal remote uses Bluetooth technology to control the devices, featuring all buttons to manage navigation through the system’s menus and entertainment apps like Netflix, Youtube, and HBO Go.
It will be available in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico when it launches this month. It includes the options “share”, “options”, and PS buttons, just like the DualShock 4. Also, the “triangle, square, circle and x” buttons appear in the control device. The remote is priced at $29.99 and it’s available for pre-order at BestBuy, Amazon, and Toys R Us.
Cutting down prices
Sony Corp. announced that they will lower the prices of PlayStation 4 in the U.S. and Canada, to increase their sales just before the holiday season. The new price will be $349.99 while they are currently sold for $399.99.
“By cutting the price at this time, we aim to fuel the momentum of PlayStation 4 toward the year-end holiday season,” a spokesman at Sony Computer Entertainment Inc said to the Wall Street Journal.
The new price is going to match with their major competitor, the Xbox One from Microsoft. Nevertheless, Sony has sold more than 20 million units this year, being the best-selling video game console of this generation.
