Owners of the new OnePlus 5 have reported in the last few days that the device has a “jelly-like” scrolling effect. Because of all these concerns expressed by the OnePlus owner, the company made a statement saying that the unusual scrolling effect is not a defect but an entirely normal feature.
In general, OnePlus’s new flagship device has received good feedbacks for its fast performance. However, its jelly-like scrolling effect has alarmed customers. Apparently, this occurred because the phone manufacturer decided to mount the screen upside down since it fit better.
The strange scrolling effect is not a defect
The OnePlus 5 was recently released, and it has been claimed for its software and its satisfying performance. It has the Cyanogen OS operating system pre-installed for most markets. The OnePlus 5 costs about $480, and its camera can be compared to those of expensive phones such as the Samsung 8, which has a price of $720. However, this jelly-like effect appears when users scroll through an app. People started raising concerns about this issue, thinking their phone had a problem. Apparently, the text and the images expand and shrink when people scroll.
Due to this, the company decided to clarify the issue saying that the scrolling effect was really subtle and completely normal. There is not a manufacturing problem in these phones. Therefore, if people wanted to file for a warranty replacement for their OnePlus 5, they might not be able, because it wouldn’t resolve the issue, and technically, it is not a defect.
“The OnePlus 5 uses the same level of high-quality components as all OnePlus devices, including the AMOLED display. We’ve received feedback from a small number of users saying that at times they notice a subtle visual effect when scrolling. This is natural and there’s no variance in screens between devices,” said OnePlus through a statement.
Therefore that little change on the phone can’t be fixed. However, if people are unsatisfied with it, they can always opt for the 15-day return policy offered by OnePlus.
What is really causing this jelly-like effect?
There has been a lot of speculation about the actual reason behind this strange effect. According to experts on the web, the screen of the device was not installed as it usually is. It might have been mounted upside down. This hypothesis emerged as people try to replicate the “jelly” effect on other phones by flipping the screen. It has been said that OnePlus decided to give an 180 degrees rotation to the display since it actually fits better in that position in the OnePlus 5. The screen attachment module on the 3T has been taken up by the 5’s camera sensor.
However, the phone maker doesn’t seem to handle the issue that way because it said in the statement that there is no variance between the screens of the different phones.
