Starbreeze announced its partnership with Acer in the development of StarVR, its new high FOV and high-resolution VR headset.

The game developer and the consumer electronic firm signed a letter to cooperate on the design, manufacturing, promotion, marketing and sales of the StarVR HMD to the professional- and location-based entertainment market.

From the project InfinitEye, last year Starbreeze revealed their StarVR, a 210 degree high resolutions VR headset. The headset received attention thanks to a dedicated VR experience based on their Walking Dead franchise.

Back in January, Starbreeze revealed its location based StarCade initiative, which intends to introduce VR centers looking, which will allow customers to immerse themselves into premium VR experiences.

“Since our launch in June 2015, we have had an amazing start with StarVR. By partnering with Acer we shift gears yet again to firmly position us as the leader in top-end VR experiences. Acer is an excellent, experienced and prominent hardware partner that will accelerate us in realizing and producing a high-definition, high-fidelity VR headset,” said Bo Andersson Klint, Starbreeze CEO.

Klint added that, since de beginning, they’ve been working with a clear strategy for VR. He claims to be excited for what the future holds for the first major collaboration they set out to achieve.

StarVR’s goal is to give users a high-quality experience

According to the reports, Starbreeze and Acer are not positioning StarVR as a competitor to consumer VR headsets like the Rift or Vive but as an enterprise focused device. This way, the companies will likely entail a premium price point for the headset. Rumors said the price could be around $1,000.

StarVR uses two full-size 5.5-inch displays, pushing the resolution to 5120×1440 and the field of view to 210 degrees horizontally.

Jason Chen, Acer Corporate President, and CEO, Acer is excited due the partnership with Starbreeze, which is intended to bring StarVR head-mounted display to the market. The two companies are “devoting” resources across several matters of  VR’s ecosystem in order to achieve coherent and high-quality experience. Meanwhile, Acer recently announced new powerful desktops and notebooks with the capacity to full work with StarVR. Starbreeze and Acer’s goal is to deliver best-in-class VR applications, added Chen.
