On Wednesday, Steven Adler, former Guns N’ Roses drummer, joined Axl Rose, Slash and Duff McKagan on stage to play “Out ta get me” and “My Michelle” at the Paul Brown Stadium in Cincinnati, Ohio. The concert was part of the “Not in a lifetime tour” which has its name due to a comment the vocalist made in an old interview. When asked if there was a chance of him playing with Slash again, Axl Rose answered not in this lifetime.
Michael Coletti, better known as Steven Adler, first joined a newly formed Guns N’ Roses back in 1985. The band soon gained a lot of fame and recognition, but he just could not handle it. As it is common in the industry at the time, the drummer lost himself to alcohol and drugs. In 1990, the other members of the band decided that Adler’s addiction to heroin was too much of a problem, and they kicked him out. Then, he made or joined a couple of unsuccessful bands and participated in realities such as Celebrity Rehab.
“On the drums, you might know this guy is Steven Adler!” Axl Rose told the audience at the Paul Brown Stadium.
The fans were surprised with all the original members of Guns N’ Roses in Stage
The audience exploded in Cincinnati, especially because it is Adler’s hometown. They had not seen the original members playing together on a tour since 1990. However, everyone had the chance to see them jamming in 2012 when they were inducted into the Rock n’ Roll Hall of Fame.
So far, the band is delivering, they promised their fans three of the original members, and that is what they are getting on the tour. Yesterday, there was a big plus, but it was a temporary thing. According to the sources, Adler cannot join the tour right now due to medical issues, something related to back surgery. However, they did not discard the possibility of him tagging along later.
A lot of people said Guns N’ Roses would not be able to pull this tour off, but the success “Not in this lifetime” has shown they are all mature men now. Altogether with the new members, they sound excellent on stage, and according to Slash, things are just as great backstage.
“We were all pretty positive that that would never happen so it’s still sort of blowing our minds,” Slash said during a radio interview. “It seems so surreal to me, but everybody’s really getting along great and I think everybody’s come a long way and it’s all cool.”
Back in the day, the band went from stardom to making the headlines for petty differences, but it’s all different now. Everything is going as planned or even better, and after Adler’s surprise, fans in Nashville can expect anything on July 9 when Guns N’ Roses rocks their city.
