The saga of Minecraft on the Wii U has been inconsistent, with announcements followed by denials, before it finally released on the console last 17 December 2015.
Memorable features of Minecraft and Mario Bros are included in the new update
According to a Nintendo VP of publisher and developer relations Steve Singer’s statement, players will enjoy while adventuring and creating in this free game update. He added that the update embraces the unique and memorable elements of Minecraft and Mario Bros.
In the game, players will find familiar elements from both Minecraft and Mario Bros, such as animals that are reskinned as Goombas, the Mario’s flying tanooki suit is glimpsed, and material blocks seem to have the similar properties as they do in Mario games – TNT blocks become POW cubes.
The Super Mario Mash-Up Pack brings 40 themed skins for characters like Mario, Luigi, and Princess Peach, as well as bad guys like Bowser, Wario, and all of the Koopalings; apparently Wart and Tatanga are not included.
Players will be allowed to create their very own Super Mario-themed locations from across the Mushroom Kingdom in Minecraft’s uniquely blocky aesthetic, according to today’s press release. In addition, they will enjoy listening to 15 pieces of music from Super Mario 64 while they are building.
In the debut trailer can be seen areas such as Peach’s Castle from Super Mario 64 and Delfino Plaza from Super Mario Sunshine, along with many of other Easter eggs for fans.
There was no mention of the Super Mario Mash-Up Pack coming to the Xbox or PlayStation versions of Minecraft. For its part, the Xbox version of Minecraft has exclusive Halo skins. Microsoft owns Minecraft and developer Mojang.
