Tesla’s Chief Executive Elon Musk unveiled on Wednesday the second part of the company’s master plan. New projects include electric semi trucks and buses, car sharing and solar energy systems.
Elon Musk, Tesla Motors Inc Chief Executive, published on Wednesday a blog post in which it is unveiled Tesla’s vision of an integrated carbon-free energy enterprise and not only a motors company. The “Part Deux” of Tesla’s master plan aims to offer a wider range of power systems, vehicles, products, and services beyond electric cars and batteries.

Musk also unveiled that Tesla should acquire and develop solar panel installer SolarCity Corp (a rooftop solar panel installer) to generate electricity.
Tesla aimed to “create stunning solar roofs (for homes) with seamlessly integrated battery storage. Expand the electric vehicle product line to address all the main segments. Develop a self-driving capability that is 10X safer than manual via massive fleet learning. Enable your car to make money for you when you aren’t using it,” wrote Musk in a blog post titled “Master Plan, Part Deux.”
Musk owns 22 per cent of SolarCity’s shares, and he is chairperson and a major shareholder of the company.
Last month, June 21, Tesla proposed an offer to buy SolarCity for $2.8 million. The idea was to start working in a company that could provide consumers with the tools for a largely carbon-free lifestyle – electric cars recharged with electricity generated by SolarCity solar panel systems. The solar panel systems could also be used at homes by using battery packs produced by Tesla’s battery Gigafactory.
The project also aims to offer buyers of Tesla electric vehicles a solar power generation and seamlessly battery storage system.
The acquisition of SolarCity Corp seemed to be the first step to turning the motor company more into an energy company. This week Tesla changed the URL of its website from teslamotors.com into tesla.com.
Musk’s second part of his “master plan” involves the expansion of its electric vehicle line.

Musk also unveiled Tesla’s ambitious plans to expand into electric trucks and buses, and car sharing system. The expansion includes plans to develop car and ride sharing programs for truck, buses and commercial vehicles.
The new vehicles of Tesla’s second master plan will be launched next year alongside Tesla’s existing fleet of electric cars. Among Tesla’s expansion of its electric vehicle line, there is a commercial truck called the Tesla Semi, a new kind of pickup truck, a public transport bus and a compact SUV.
The expansion of Tesla’s electric vehicle lines represents a challenge for the company and a significant step away from making just passenger vehicles.
Projects including the self-driving capability for electric vehicles will be detailed next year.
In August 2006, Musk presented Tesla’s part one of its master plans. Called “Secret Tesla Motors Master Plan,” the very first master plan pointed out at the increase in the building of affordable electric cars with zero-emission and electric-power generation options.
