Olivia Newton-John is a Hollywood actress better known for her leading role in the 1978 film Grease. The actress had been dating for nine years former cameraman Patrick McDermott, until 2005 when he mysteriously vanished in a fishing trip been declared “most likely drowned.” For the last couple of years, theories about his death have occupied the tabloids, the online Australian website Woman’s Day affirms Newton’s ex is alive in Mexico with a new lover.
Patrick McDermott disappeared in the summer of 2005 during an overnight fishing trip off the coast of San Pedro California. The former cameraman had declared bankruptcy for unpaid child support to her ex Yvette Nipar.
McDermott had unpaid debts that escalated to more than $30,000 at the moment, with $8,000 being only for child support.
After McDermott’s disappearance, the Coast Guard in California launched an extensive search of the area, hoping to find at least the body of the man. There was no luck in the search and, in 2008, he was declared as “most likely drowned.”
After the declaration was made, tabloid investigators stated that the former cameraman had faked his own death and went to Mexico under his birth name Patrick Kim. Theories affirmed he was living in Sayulita Mexico, where there have been multiple sightings of Newton John’s ex.
The Australian website Woman’s Day assures that Patrick McDermott, after 11 years of disappearing, is alive and well living in Mexico, with a new german lover. A private investigator Philip Klein claims that Patrick is working in the isolated village of Sayulita Mexico.
Former private detective, John Nazarian, was the first detective to investigate the disappearance. Nazarian told the website that people in Mexico assured that McDermott was there and that he was traveling with a German national.
“To come up with the conclusion that he fell off the boat, and allegedly no one saw him fall off, is the most preposterous thing I’ve ever heard in my life,” said Nazarian to the Australian website Women’s Daily.
McDermott was 48 years old when he went missing from the fishing boat Freedom, that had set off from San Pedro Marina in California for a fishing expedition on June 30th, 2005. None of the 22 passengers on the boat saw McDermott go overboard during the trip. He was reported missing a week later by Newton-John after he didn’t show up for a pre-planned family gathering.
Olivia Newton-John was in the middle of a promotional tour in Australia when her former lover went missing. During investigations for McDermott’s disappearance, researchers found that the former cameraman had secured a second passport in his birth name Patrick Kim and had withdrawn life savings from two bank accounts before vanishing.
After Patrick McDermott disappeared a number of alleged sightings and books on theories of his whereabouts have been published. Olivia Newton-John remarried her second husband John Easterling in 2008 and remained close friends with McDermott’s ex Yvette Nipar.
Newton-John has never given the tabloids any declaration on the theories developed on her former lover.
