The swedish actress Alicia Vikander has been confirmed as the new Lara Croft in the upcoming reboot of Tomb Raider.
Vikander has been in the public eye after winning an Oscar for Best Supporting Actress in the film the Danish Girl. The actress also played a role that granted her the global acclaim in the movie Ex Machina.
The announcement was made by MGM and Warner Bros studios and according to recent statements the movie will have a different approach than the previous Tomb Raider movie that starred international star Angelina Jolie.
A more human approach on Tomb Raider’s game
Roar Uthang has been confirmed as the director for the upcoming movie, Uthang is most known for his recent movie The Wave.
Uthang has assured the movie will feature a “young and untested Lara Croft fighting to survive her first adventure” said the studios. Time Warner (TWX) will proceed the production while MGM will have an overseeing role. In a recent interview the director stated how Vikander character will develop on the film
“I Think making Lara Croft feel like a real human being, that’s definitely something we want to bring to the big screen as well” said the director in a recent interview.
Tomb Raider is a media franchise that has been created first as a videogame by the British gaming company Core Design. The game tells the story of Lara Croft an archaeologist but adventurous girl that travels across the world.
The game told the story of the adventures of Croft as she looked for artifacts and explored tombs and ruins, solving puzzles, walking down dangerous paths and fighting enemies. The first release of the game was on October 1996 called “Tomb Raider” and in November 2015 the latest version of the game Rise of the Tomb Raider was released.
The game franchise blasted off selling 45 million copies and making it rentable for a Hollywood adaptation that brought $431 million with the first two films that started Angelina Jolie.
