The drama about the Hollywood blacklist Trumbo and the television series House of Cards with three nominations each, are leading the list of nominees for the twenty-second edition of the Screen Actors Guild Awards or better known as the SAG Awards.
Trumbo expects best-cast awards, with Bryan Cranston as best actor and Helen Mirren as best supporting actress.
Then Beasts of No Nation, The Big Short, Carol, The Danish Girl, Room, Spotlight, and Steve Jobs, have two nominations each.
Cranston will fight for the award for best actor, competing with other great performers like Johnny Depp who starred in Black Mass, Leonardo DiCaprio as part of The Revenant, Michael Fassbender involved in Steve Jobs and Eddie Redmayne for The Danish Girl, while the title of best actress will be discussed among Cate Blanchett as part of Carol, Brie Larson in the movie Room, Helen Mirren in Woman in Gold, Saoirse Ronan for Brooklyn, and Sarah Silverman as part of I Smile Back.
The prize for supporting actor will be disputed between Christian Bale for The Big Short, Mark Rylance by the Cold War thriller Bridge of Spies, Michael Shannon in 99 Homes and young actor Jacob Tremblay for his role of a child in captivity in Room.
The nominees for best supporting actress include Rachel McAdams for Spotlight, Kate Winslet in Steve Jobs, Alicia Vikander playing The Danish Girl, and Rooney Mara for Carol.
Recognition for the Best Cast put in dispute the performers of the films Beasts of No Nation (Netflix), The Big Short (Paramount), Spotlight (Open Road), Straight Outta Compton (Universal) and Trumbo (Bleecker Street).
On the television side, the political drama House of Cards received three nominations, which included best cast, best dramatic actor for Kevin Spacey and best dramatic actress for Robin Wright.
Overall, it was shown more diversity among candidates of the TV than the movies, with nominations for Uzo Aduba in Orange is the New Black and Viola Davis in How to Get Away with Murder. The cast of Modern Family, the comedy series in which acts the Colombian star Sofia Vergara, was also nominated.
As SAG published in its official website, the nominees for the awards were selected by two nominating panels – one for television and one for film – each consisting of 2,200 guild members selected randomly.
Since many panel members also vote in the cinema Academy Awards, the nominees for the SAG Awards have traditionally served as an indicator of what could happen at the Oscars.
The twenty-second edition of the SAG will be held on January 30th from the Shrine Exposition Center in Los Angeles, California, under the presentation of Anna Faris and Anthony Mackie.
