Independence, Missouri – Wendy’s employee Victoria Repine was pulled out from a drive-thru window and beaten in the ground over straws by three people. The 19-year-old was three months pregnant, according to some local media reports.
The incident occurred at about 3 pm on Sunday, at a Wendy’s located on 40 Highway near Blue Ridge Cutoff. Victoria Repine, Wendy’s worker, was fulfilling an order when a woman demanded more straws due to she had allegedly forgotten them, Repine’s mother, Heather Salcedo, told WDAF-TV.
“One of the girls had gotten out of the vehicle and was standing at the window with her arms crossed, and she said, ‘you forgot to give us our straws’,” the mother commented, while adding that Repine barely had time to answer “ma`am they are in your sack.”
Her daughter fell back inside the window, hit a drinks tray, and tried to get back up when the two women pulled her completely outside the window.
After Repine was on the ground, Salcedo added, the two women started kicking and punching her, while a third person in the back of the car, a male, came out and started punching and kicking her as well. Salcedo assured that the experience was horrible and that no parent should ever get a call like that.
“Before she could get those words completely out, the girl was pulling her out of the window, and another girl was beating her up,” she said.
During the incident, coworkers tried to help by asking the people to stop and yelling that Repine was pregnant. The attackers responded to the request by saying that they did not care, Salcedo added. The mother concluded from that response that the attackers did not care about her daughter’s life of the one of her grandchild’s.
Repine is already the mother of a 1-year-old baby, while she expects her second one. The child appeared to be alive after doctors checked and heard the heartbeat. The mother had severe head trauma, cuts, and scrapes on her scalp, serious bleeding, a gash on her face with black eyes.
One of the reasons to get the attackers, Salcedo stated, is that they need to be held accountable. They were upset over 50 cents straws, but they are going to pay for those medical bills, the mother said.
The investigation
The victim filed a police report, but the Independence’s police department did not immediately corroborate the incident nor identified the suspects as of early Tuesday. The local had a surveillance video, and it is working to get it to the police. There was witness according to the victim.
Wendy’s released a statement addressing the attack, in which they assured to be shocked and saddened by what had happened at the restaurant. They also commented to be cooperating fully with the local law enforcement authorities and their investigation.
Details about the incident cannot be published at the time due to they could jeopardize the police’s investigation, Wendy’s stated. They added as well that their team it is working to help authorities with the “difficult situation.”
